Commissions Activities

All members -- and even those still considering membership -- may participate in the work of our commissions. You can contact one of the Session members above for more information or simply join us at the next scheduled meeting (usually the second Wednesday of each month. but the times vary when holiday schedules interfere).

Commission meetings begin with a potluck meal at 5:30, and then the groups break into their separate meetings. The first time you attend, you can spend a little time with each group to see where you would like to lend your time and talents.

Our commissioners are the groups of dedicated members who guide our programs, oversee the maintenance of our building, and help us decide the best use of our resources.

Come get involved!

Building and Grounds
We can be thankful to members of this commission for working so hard to keep our church and its property in such good repair -- not always easy, given the age of the building and the constraints placed on us by the need to comply with the historical registry.

Building Improvements: Additionally, given the overall state of our (and the nation's!) finances this past year, the Session has attempted to prioritize various building/maintenance projects. A building campaign is in the works to begin to solicit funds for these projects of immediate concern. These include further roof repair, repair/rennovation of the sound system in the sanctuary, and remodeling of the bathrooms to be made more accessible.

As of the middle of June, Session members are actively working to define the necessary tasks so as to acquire accurate bids. More information will be added here as it becomes available.

Meanwhile . . .
  • The alarm system has been serviced and now has a new code
  • A bid is being solicited to repair the courtyard fence
  • Checklists have been put up to help people secure the building following. Coffee Hour hosts will be asked to assume the responsibility of locking up -- with assistance as needed from the Session and members of this commission.

The Dougherty Garden: The Ina Dougherty Memorial Garden provides a peaceful spot for visiting or quiet reflection. But it also requires maintenance! The commission has been working to oversee its care. If you haven't wandered through the garden, please take a few minutes following coffee hour to enjoy the landscaping.

Note: Our thanks to Bob Dill for his diligent supervision of the memorial garden. Bob has decided that he would like someone else to take over the task of coordinating garden care. If you are interested in helping us care for this beautiful space, please join us at the next commissions meeting!
